3000 years ago glacial melt filled the basin of Clear Lake when volcanic flow dammed the ancient Mckenzie River. Today, icy water
bubbles up from Great Springs into a cerulean pool at the north side of the lake having traveled for decades through lava caves.
I visited Clear Lake for the first time in 2020, the same year that Oregon Glaciers Institute held a requiem for South Sister's Clark Glacier, heard on KLCC radio. I wonder how Clear Lake will change as our glaciers continue towards extinction...
